Yamil Cuedo Ferrera
Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Yamil has been dancing since he can remember. Before moving to Edinburgh, Scotland, he was a professional dancer for almost 5 years with Ballet Folklorico Cutumba, one of Cuba’s top Afro-Cuban dance and music ensembles. With an extensive repertoire based on authentic music and historically researched dances, Cutumba is a leader in its field and has toured internationally on numerous occasions. Prior to Cutumba, Yamil danced with la Ceiba and Sangre y Tradicion dance companies in Santiago as well as other dance groups for over 15 years.
Since his arrival in Scotland in 2009, Yamil has been teaching at Dancebase (Edinburgh), the National Centre for Dance for Scotland; DanceHouse (Glasgow); Rumba Latina (Aberdeen) and various venues around the United Kingdom. He has featured as a guest tutor at the Dublin Salsa congress; Pontins Blackpool weekends; the Scottish Salsa congress Edinburgh; the Roots of Salsa event in Manchester in March 2013; Afro-Cuban weekender in London in March 2014. Yamil has also successfully run dance workshops all over the UK, and performed at many events and special activities, including weddings, conferences and corporate activities. His characteristic energy, big smile and Cuban warmth radiate to everyone who sees him dance!
Kath has had a love of Cuban dance and music since her first visit to Cuba in 1997. With regular visits every 3-6 months ever since then, she organises and leads Cuban dance holidays, Cuban music holidays and cultural tours in Cuba and also promotes Cuban music and dance events in the UK. Kath teaches Cuban salsa regularly at Dancebase, the National Centre for Dance in Scotland, and at other events and festivals around the country.
